An idea that's been floating in my head...

I know this would be almost impossible to pull off given the shear size of Red Sox Nation, and the number of us who blog, but I have been tossing around the idea of BoSox Bloggers conventions.

This is the thought in my head - since Fenway is selling out regularly, and it's obscenely expensive to get tickets to the "lyric little bandbox," each year, or twice a year (maybe once early and once late), Sox bloggers converge on one of the minor league sites like Lowell, Pawtucket, Greenville, Portland, or even Gulf Coast (sorry West Coast bloggers, you're on your own with Lancaster).

Maybe even hold every 5th year at a bar like the Cask and Flagon in Boston during the season.

I would be surprised if it weren't something that the minor league affiliates would be into. Of course, that would mean the group of us would have to become much more organized, maybe even sort of incorporate...official member of BoSox Bloggers or something. I would love to get feedback and suggestions on how to go about this - or if all you others out there think that would even be possible.

Personally, I like the idea of being able to talk Sox face to face with the brethren.

That'd be awesome. Especially since I'm relatively close to all the stadiums. Sign me up.

I think you'd have to aim for 2008 to kick it off. Use 2007 to build the group, contact the teams and explain who the group is and such.

As far as forming the group, I don't know if there is anything you actually have to do legal-wise unless you collect dues or something. I am sure someone else could give you better info on that.

I guess the only one that would be a hike for you would be Greenville, SC. It might be something where I just start hitting other people's blogs and directing them to the idea, and have other bloggers forward the info along.

Kind of make a blog chain about it...

I think you're right tho, it couldn't be any earlier than 2008.

As far as incorporating - I think that would be something to do if we were looking at Tee-shirts and other knicknacks commemorating the "conventions," or if monies for tickets to each venue were being funneled through one individual who was organizing the event.

I think it'd be cool to incorporate the group. Gotta have the convention swag, right?

I put a post about it up on my site.

Kevin,

Brilliant idea. The hard part will be spreading the word. I'm sure once we/you get a larger, informed audience, enough ideas should surface regarding the organization of it all.

But I think it would make much more sense to congregate somewhere in Boston - like the Cask and Flagon. We ARE Red Sox bloggers, after all. Although they are affiliated w/ the Sox, we aren't necessarily PawSox or JetHawks or SeaDogs bloggers. It just seems more apporpriate to convene in a Boston-area venue.

First thing I would suggest is to reserve the URL bosoxbloggers.blogger.com. It is available.

I just put a link up underneath of my Griffey Watch to this post. Considering the abundance of traffic I get through my blog, it shouldn't be long until we/you have a following.

Depending on time constraints (which I imagine all of us are under), consider me in!

Kevin-

I would be up for the idea. I'll post a link to this on the LINKS page on FenwayNation.com. I agree that a Boston locale is best.
